Today, Birmingham City Schools unveiled the new Pathways to Professional Nursing program in partnership with the UAB School of Nursing.
Currently in its first year, 19 students at Huffman High School are enrolled in the program, which is offered under the Academy of Health Science.
Scholars in the program earn patient care technician certification that will enable them to enter the healthcare workforce after graduation or continue their education in the field. In fact, students who enroll at UAB will be able to start as pre-nursing student.
Access to Pathways to Professional Nursing will expand to students at Ramsay, Wenonah, and Woodlawn next school year.
